At Dijkstra Plastics, innovation is an important topic. We always strive to offer our customers the most sustainable solutions. That is why we have been supplying our non-food customers with buckets made of 100% recycled plastic (PCR) for many years now. This is already a great result of our sustainability efforts. Due to the many requirements, such as extreme strength and reliability, we were only able to offer lids made of virgin plastic.

After the recent message about our investment in a new highly efficient energy saving cooling system for our Haaksbergen plant, we can now proudly announce that from the start of 2024 on Dijkstra Plastics only uses 100% Dutch renewable energy.

“A milestone to be enormously proud of.”, says Remy Notten, Commercial Director at Dijkstra Plastics. “With the transition to this renewable energy source we have been able to bring our CO2 emissions in scope 1 and 2 down to an absolute minimum. This is of vital importance to succeed in our mission, to continue to be the most sustainable producer of plastic pails in Europe.”

While the end of 2022 was all about obtaining our AA certificate, an unannounced audit for the AA+ certification took place at the end of 2023. We are proud to announce that we have successfully completed this BRCGS audit.

Recently we invested in a new highly efficient energy saving cooling system for our plant in Haaksbergen. With a projected saving of 1,600,000+ kWh per year, this results in saving 918 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

Dijkstra Plastics has a clear mission, to continue to be the most sustainable producer of plastic pails in Europe. For example all our products are made of 100% recyclable Polypropylene (PP). In addition to this, we encourage our non-food customers to switch to pails made from 100% recycled material. Finally, in 2022 we launched a startup called FIRE-OFF. This company ensures that used empty pails are no longer incinerated.

Also this new energy saving cooling system contributes to achieving our mission.

In the autumn of 2022, the audit for the BRCGS certification took place at Dijkstra Plastics. BRCGS is a standard for food safety. This standard describes the hygiene and food safety requirements for food processing companies that supply directly to the retail sector.

We are proud to announce that we have started a new start-up to make the production of recycled plastic buckets circular: FIRE-OFF. On the initiative of Dijkstra Plastics, painting companies, the hospitality industry and festival organisations are personally approached to save empty buckets and to hand them in at the weekly FIRE-OFF pick-up point.

At Dijkstra Plastics we undertake daily efforts in order to turn the plastic packaging chain into a circular chain. We would like to share our solutions for sustainable packaging buckets and our circular mission with you. Furthermore, we would like to discuss what your company could do to contribute to a circular plastic packaging chain. At the FachPack and Scanpack we will tell you more about it!

We have donated buckets for the Oogappeltjes Foundation and KNGF Guide Dog Foundation. These buckets are placed in supermarkets, and customers can fill them with their plastic bottle caps. KNGF receives a fee per kilo of caps. We truly enjoy contributing to such a wonderful initiative!

The Packaging Innovations will take place on the 17th and 18th of November in the Taets Art & Event Park, Amsterdam. Vitafy is a supplier of sports nutrition and is the company behind the know brand Bodylab Whey. Their range of packaging containers from Dijkstra Plastics keeps growing.

Dijkstra Plastics is one of the largest producers of packaging containers and together with our label partners we can provide the vast majority of our range with In Mould Label printing.

We are very aware of our great responsibility for production of plastic packaging products. That is why we take measures to keep the impact of our packaging on the living environment as responsible as possible.

With a range of 0.3 to 61 liter packaging, we offer a wide range of packaging in various forms such as round, rectangular and square. In addition to these standard solutions, we also offer tailor-made solutions.

In addition to the fact that traceability in the food industry is mandatory, it is also important in other production chains to follow where raw materials come from. This certainly also applies to our packaging containers.

Since the year 2000, Alfix, producer of tile adhesives and more, has been proactively minimizing its impact on the environment for both production and their products. But the packaging in which the products are packed must also be sustainable, according to the company in Kolding.

Last week we welcomed our new BMB injection moulding machine to our machinery. After assembling and preparing in Italy, everything is now being prepared to reinforce and modernise our current machinery in Haaksbergen.

Subsequent to our recent audit, which was carried out in line with the BRC Packaging Standard, we have once again been awarded the highest attainable AA status for both our locations, at Almelo and Haaksbergen. We’re extremely proud to announce this news, and are very much looking forward to when circumstances in relation to the coronavirus once again permit us to welcome visitors to our wonderful factories.

We all know a dramatic shift must take place in the world due to the climate issue. In 30 years’ time we will no longer be using crude oil as the basis for plastic packaging. Remy is telling us more about the future of packaging industries.

Veolia Polymers, Dijkstra Plastics and Koninklijke Van Wijhe Verf tail the circular economy a little closer with she paint bucket of 100% recycled plastic. With this paint bucket they show that circularity works: as long as you give it a chance and keep working on it together.

With the launch of our new Christmas film "What a year', we would also like to put one of the packaging buckets from this film in the spotlight. The rectangular packaging bucket (model: 17 GL RH) can be seen several times. This bucket is of course available with a regular lid but can also be equipped with a so-called folding lid. In the Netherlands, as well as elsewhere in Europe, the corona virus is again gaining more control over our way of live. At Dijkstra Plastics we are actively working on keeping our sites and personnel as safe as possible. This must ensure that the operational activities can continue. Steps are also being taken in our product range and we can offer more solutions for several applications.

In recent years, the HK Plastics logo was still on the facade in Almelo. In recent weeks, a lot of work has been done to give the Almelo office building a facelift, so that now, beautifully lit, the Dijkstra Plastics Logo can be proudly displayed in appropriate colors.

The 5 litre pail contains all ingredients and kit to brew 5 litres of beer. The pail is also used as a fermentation vessel in the brewing process. There is a bucket for every use!

Last week a new BMB injection-moulding machine was delivered. After a long trip from Italy and a full disinfection process the machine is now installed in our plant.

With the recent developments regarding the Corona virus, everyone is expected to take action. Washing hands, social distancing and a hygienic environment are key points for a healthy world.

In recent weeks, the number of infections with the COVID-19 (Corona) virus has increased significantly throughout the world. Dijkstra Plastics has prepared itself to map and mitigate the consequences of an outbreak for our organization. Within the organization, a team has been set up to monitor developments on a daily basis and take relevant measures.

Since the acquisition of HK Plastics in 2016, two separate websites have been kept online: both the Dijkstra Plastics website and the HK Plastics website. In the beginning, this was important to guarantee the continuity of receiving and welcoming visitors. Later on, however, with the further integration of the two companies, it was decided to work towards a single website.

To guarantee food safety and quality standards, both production sites and its warehouses were subjected to an audit. During this audit for BRC Packaging and FSSC 22000 standards, all internal quality processes were tested. This year, like previous years, Dijkstra Plastics past all tests

The number of requests coming in at Dijkstra Plastics have been growing in recent years. Part of these requests involved low-quantity purchases, which we were unable to deal with. After identifying this growing opportunity, we started to explore the possibility of setting up a web shop to be able to provide even more users with our packaging buckets.

Here at Dijkstra Plastics, we have been processing plastics for many decades, especially polypropylene (PP). In addition to the traditional dry cloths (which are available in different qualities), Hewitex also produces damp and wet cleaning cloths, ready for use immediately.

Kekkilä Oy has been active in the fertiliser market since 1924. The Finnish company, which merged with Dutch BVB Substrates in 2018, supplies a wide range of peat and fertilisers for both the professional market and for consumers. Kekkilä treats natural resources, society and people in a responsible manner. Sustainability is interwoven throughout its corporate culture.

Jimmy Products is a modern family business that is dedicated to the development and production of Jimmy’s popcorn. They operate ultra-modern production lines for ready-to-eat and microwave popcorn. Fokken & Müller GmbH has been processing their renowned Emder Matjes in all shapes and sizes for over 120 years now. Here, quality is still written with a capital “Q”. The same high quality standard is also demanded of the packaging. The recently changed corporate identity of Fokken & Müller GmbH has been introduced on the complete range of packaging buckets and trays from Dijkstra Plastics.

Koninklijke Van Wijhe Verf is an independent Dutch family business that has been producing paints successfully since 1916. With over a century of experience under their belt, innovation is one of the core values of this company. Traditional craftsmanship is combined with the latest techniques and insights. Wijzonol is one of the paint brands developed by them, allowing professional painters and critical DIYers to deliver a sustainable and professional finish that will withstand typical Dutch weather circumstances.

Frylite is the leading supplier for quality frying oils in Ireland. For more than thirty years, they have been supplying customers across the country with a range of different cooking oils as well as collecting used waste oil. In order to do this, Frylite re-use Dijkstra Plastic packaging buckets. Clients return used oil to Frylite in the buckets, allowing Frylite to clean, refill and send out the same bucket up to five times.
