Buckets and lids, both made of 100% recycled plastic: a breakthrough!

At Dijkstra Plastics, innovation is a very important topic. We always strive to offer our customers the most sustainable solutions. That is why we have been supplying our non-food customers with buckets made of 100% recycled plastic (PCR) for many years now. This is already a great result of our sustainability efforts.

Due to the many requirements, such as extreme strength and reliability, we were only able to offer lids made of virgin plastic.

Luckily, we have a breakthrough!

We are proud to announce that we have managed to develop a lid made of 100% recycled plastic (PCR).

Research

Our new PCR lid was developed for all types of transport within the non-food industry. The research into this innovative product was done in cooperation with suppliers of recycled plastic (De Paauw Sustainable Resources), customers and other partners. During this research, the following steps were followed:

  • Dijkstra Plastics supplied its PCR buckets and lids to customers in the paint industry;
  • The buckets were filled by the customers and prepared on pallets for transport;
  • At an accredited and certified testing laboratory, the pallets went through several intensive tests in accordance with the ASTM test protocol;
  • After completing the tests, the pallets were extensively and carefully inspected. The final conclusion was that our new type of lid successfully passed the test.

What are the advantages of our PCR lid?

Because no new fossil raw materials are used in the production of our PCR lid, it contributes to reducing the CO2 footprint of our products. For instance, producing the PCR lid results in more than 50% less CO2 emissions compared to a lid made of virgin plastic. So, in order to make your packaging even more sustainable, our PCR lid is the perfect solution.

Is the PCR lid already available?

We are currently in the final stages of the research. Are you interested and would like to be kept informed about new developments, please leave your details in the form below.

BRC Packaging

BRCGS is a standard for food safety. The standard describes the hygiene and food safety requirements for food processing companies that supply directly to the retail sector. You can also think of packaging materials for foodstuffs.

FSSC 22000

The FSSC 22000 Standard has been created through Stichting Certificatie Voedselveiligheid (SCV). As a food-oriented version of the ISO 22000 Standard, this certification programme has been set up as a global guideline in food safety and quality within various industries. This standard is aimed at the entire production chain and as such, it is ideally suited for international harmonisation, partly thanks to the recognition by the GFSI. In addition to its connection with ISO 22000, the FSSC 22000 has many comparisons with the HACCP criteria, making it an attractive variant with the best of both worlds from these programmes. Thanks to the internationally accepted nature of the FSSC and the chain-wide approach within this certification programme, we recognise a strong food safety management system in this standard.
