PreZero and FIRE-OFF collaborate on a nationwide collection system for used buckets and lids

The two parties are teaming up to give as many plastic packaging buckets as possible a second life.
Nationwide collection made simple
Most plastic packaging buckets (such as those used for sauces, frying fats, and paints) currently end up in general waste after use, resulting in incineration. That’s unfortunate, as the material is highly recyclable. To make separate collection as easy as possible for end users, from city snack bars and hotel chains to industrial companies, FIRE-OFF and PreZero have been working together since March of this year. Their goal is to collect used plastic buckets and lids separately, with the aim of reusing valuable raw materials.
“As a nationwide partner, PreZero is working with us to collect used buckets and lids. Together, we prevent these materials from being lost,” says Eloy van der Linde, director of FIRE-OFF. “End users, both large and small, register their used buckets and lids. These are collected by PreZero or FIRE-OFF and then recycled by FIRE-OFF into high-quality raw materials. Dijkstra Plastics uses these materials to produce buckets made of 100% recycled materials. This way, we close the loop and save up to over 50% CO₂ per kilogram of collected polypropylene compared to incineration. The way we like it best: FIRE-OFF.”
Together toward Zero Waste

Since March 1, 2025, the active collection of used plastic packaging buckets and lids has begun in the Netherlands. If successful, the initiative will be expanded beyond national borders.
